Beach Yoga
Fourth of July at the beach conjures up images of fireworks over the ocean and friends sipping chilled Tecatés by the water. In honor of our annual trek to Port Aransas, I’m hoping to create a new image this year: yoga on the beach. I will be staying down at the Sandcastle Condominiums during the first week in July, and if you care to join to me for some sunrise yoga,* bring a mat to the beach, right there in front of the Sandcastle (800 Sandcastle Drive, Port Aransas, Texas).
*Okay so realistically, I probably won’t have SUNRISE yoga, more like 8 a.m. yoga. (I AM on vacation & all!) I’ll confirm the plans with those who respond. If there IS interest & I get this rolling, plan to start on Tuesday, July 1, 2008 ~ a simple morning practice (all are welcome) with some Sun Salutations and a gentle opening to grace! For more details, please email me.
F.Y.I. ~ The Sandcastle is located not far from the Horace Caldwell Pier (a.k.a. the Port Aransas Pier) midway between Sandcastle Drive and Access Road 1A about a mile south of the pier. By the way, here are some great photos of that landmark, taken by a photographer identified only as Gordon W.
Sand as a Yogic Tool
Every April at Port A, there is a 3-day sand fest, a competition for sand sculptors. I have yet to go but the images are amazing ~ beautiful & detailed ~ by amateurs and professionals alike. As a yogi, consider this art form for a moment: creating these masterpieces that will wash away with the winds and the tides. Take note, my friends, for I believe that’s Vairagya AND Aparigraha manifested right there on the Texas coast (with my apologies to Sanskrit scholars everywhere)!
Y’all have a GREAT day!
