Hi,
Yoga is beneficial for the health in ways that modern science is just beginning to understand. Even though it has beenapplied with therapeutic intention for thousand of years, Yoga Therapy is only just now emerging as a discipline initself.
More health care practitioners are starting to include yogic techniques in their approach to healing -- andmore yoga teachers give a therapeutic intention to their teaching. People who have never tried yoga before are startingto consider including Yoga in their treatment plan.
As science begins to document the importance of understanding the interrelation of all existing things, it looks to Yogawith an intrigued eye, for Yoga speaks Unity in every word. As yoga techniques are researched and new data is gathered,it becomes easier for science and the medical establishment to understand and accept the benefits of Yoga Therapy.Yet there is still not one consensual definition of the discipline.
In order to arrive to an adequate definition and tocome up with proper standards for Yoga Therapy, it is crucial at this early stage to properly address some delicateprofessional and ethical issues. At the same time it is important to educatethegeneralpublic about Yoga Therapy'sbenefits and careful use.
so this article will really helpful to me..

At my facebook page I have started an album called "Hands". The next 2 photos I will add....
1. of my left hand bandaged from carpal tunnel surgery
2. a photo which hangs in the Hand Micro-surgery Hospital in Izmir, Turkey where I had my operation.
The essay on 5 generations of hands and my further search for photos of hands....it came at a time when I was so very concerned about MY hands. You see, I was mentally preparing for the worst...I am left-handed and the carpal tunnel surgery was on my left hand. I was so worried. But, it all worked out fine and now my hand is healing and feeling stronger by the day.

Hi Pam,

I love! your flow chart!!!!!! I'm a recent grad of TT level 1 and have just been teaching for 7 mos. Sometimes I am so overwhelmed with how to get it all in. Tying it all together is such a challenge. Thank you so much for making your ingeniously creative idea available. You have no idea how many people you have helped.

T J. Murphy, thanks for your comments. So far I have taken 135 sets of hand pictures and each person has a copy of Melinda's essay. I recently moved to another clinic where a new group of people have been able to read her essay. It is still just a powerful as the first time I displayed it. I have the display at the end of the hall where every patient exiting can see it. Not a day goes by without someone pausing to see it.

I had taken pictures of my Mom's hands a few weeks ago as something fun and now I am going to do something like this, it is such a beautiful thing. We are four generations and it would be such a wonderful remembrance. I am so glad to find your site. I was searching for the poem to add to my scrapbook page of her hands and it is wonderful to find the same connections. And Dr. Otter sounds like a wonderful Dr. too. Thank you for the inspiration.

I am sorry that my post came across as "joking about ADD." It wasn't intended to be that at all. It IS crappy when you feel misunderstood or marginalized.

Like you, I too have diagnosed ADD for which I take medication & have for years. Even so, it's STILL quite obvious to others & a source of amusement to them & frustration to me. I relate to what you say, medication helps but it does not "fix" me.

I also have a son who is VERY ADHD (and on medication). He is one of 3 and the other 2 don't have ADD. I want to share that I work in the school system, & I encounter MANY people who see ADD as "lack of self-discipline" (in me and other adults) and/or "poor parenting" in children who are over diagnosed according to them. This only makes those who are truly ADD feel worse about themselves.

Granted, there ARE doctors who over prescribe and there certainly diagnosed individuals with ADD whose "bad behavior" really is just the result of poor parenting. BUT there is also a very real population that HAS this condition & benefits from the appropriate meds & interventions.

That said, while I understand it's how I am "wired" & in large part, difficult to change, I don't want "it" to be how I am defined & more importantly, how I am limited. I am constantly searching for ways to more effectively manage my life & achieve MY goals. For me, I am constantly looking & pulling from lots of resources & try them out: from organizing books & articles to yoga to diet modifications to counseling to medications. Different things DO work for different people with varying degrees of success.

I know it's not as simple as a short blog post on "The Sacred Six," but it's things like this which provide me with yet another tool in my box. It is my hope that sharing my discoveries may help someone else too in even the smallest way.

I actually have ADD and although it leads me to very creative ideas it makes it nearly impossible to follow through and accomplish much of anything. This has been a source of great frustration for the last 40+ years until my family Dr. suggested I get an evaluation. Now I take medicine to help me focus. It is not perfect and there are side effects but I have been able to set and accomplish many of my life goals. I know people joke about ADD when they skip from subject to subject without a segue but that is like comparing the loss of your keys once in a while to having Alzheimers. It is not just being kind of quirky or energetic - it is really a very debilitating disorder and the people who are afflicted with it need your understanding and compassion. Okay I'll get off of my soap box now.

I received the "hand" photo and story in an email...this was my reply...
I now wish that I had taken a photo of my Dad's hands before he passed away 2 years ago this September 12. He had the largest hands of any man I knew....muscular and strong also! Later on today I will search photos and see IF I do have any photos of his hands....IF I do, then I will scan the photo and crop it to reveal only his hands....
God willing I can find a photo.....

I remember his advice to me...having to do with hands.....

The handshake..

advice is that a handshake must be a strong one because it shows a strong and steady character.
Too many times he had known right from the first handshake that particular person's demeanor and personality! He knew immediately upon that telltale handshake!

and now another memory comes to me having to do with hands.....

As our 2 daughters grew up what I did for my Mom and my Mother-in-Law each Mother's Day was to create our own cards.
I would trace each of their hands onto colored construction paper, cut out the "hands" and place them on another colored construction paper which was folded in half. The girls' names were written on the top of their respective cards with the date of that particular Mother's Day written across the bottom of the card...the girls would "sign" their name as best they could...and usually a photo was placed inside the card...and then we placed them in envelopes and sent them on to the Gramma in Hawaii and the Grandma in NJ.
When we were cleaning out Al's Mom's things after she had passed away, we found that she had saved EACH card! When my Mom moved from NJ to Maine, she found her set and gave them to me. They have now been passed on to Malia and Lianna as a rememberance of their "hands' growth" each year!
