Awakening Your Senses
A conference like this offers wonderful opportunities to experience other teachers. I have totally enjoyed seeing the individual expression of these Anusara Yoga teachings. Each teacher has been fully in sync with the methodology, and yet unique in their own style. Today, I had a whole new experience to add to my perspective.
The description for the half-day intensive read:
Anusara Yoga: A Playshop for Awakening the Senses in Asana with Sianna Sherman ~ Step into your inherent gift of the five senses with asana, breath, and the Universal Principles of Alignment
The previous day, Jen returned from one of Sianna’s classes completely high. As she described the class in glowing terms, she demoed poses on the floor of the lodge undeterred by the cramped quarters of our room. Our girl truly rode in on the currents of grace.
Sianna Sherman with Jen
With that report, Jesse and I looked forward to our morning session and we were not disappointed. Sianna Sherman waxes poetic in her delivery. Her class has the feel of a fine arts performance but with a lot of hard work for the audience! Her engaging stories seem effortless in their delivery. Yet, she described herself growing up shy, being scared of public speaking. Her dad told her, “Don’t worry. When something is important enough to you, you won’t have any trouble.” And clearly he was right.
As we explored the theme of senses, Sianna talked more about her father. One of her earliest memories is lying her head on his belly as he opened an orange, the smell of the citrus filling the air. He told her that was the smell of joy, and that any time she was feeling sad, she just needed to peel open an orange and release the joy.
From her profile in the conference brochure: “Sianna playfully weaves alignment, therapeutics and creative sequencing with stories, poetry and Tantric philosophy that embraces the fullness of life.” That she does.
